The first major piece of equipment you will need is a mask. You shouldn't play without one, and if you go to a field it is required. There is no best mask. It all depends on which fits you best. JT Spectra masks are a very good choice though, and if you can afford it, get a thermal lens. As for markers, the Tippmann Model 98 is a very good choice, and can be found for around $125 online, including the hopper, and accessories. It works a lot better in cold weather, and is as sturdy as a rock. Aftermarket barrels, like the J&J Ceramic shown here are very good modifications for guns like the M98. CO2 tanks are the standard in power supply for entry level guns. Always make sure you O-rings are in tact. They come in varied sizes, but 20oz is a reasonable size. Packs, and pods help you lug around paintballs, but aren't necessary. Barrel Plugs are a must, and barrel swabs are a great alternative to squeegees. Butt Plates fit on the end of C02 tanks, and give extra support while firing. The proper clothing is also a must (Camo works well). Gloves protect the hands well. Make sure you where sturdy footware, dress for the elements, and unless you have balls of steel a cup of some sort might also be something you may want.

Remember, It's not the gun that makes the player, it's the thing behind it.
